Once upon a time there was a woodcutter and his wife who lived in the woods in a humble cabin with their two children, Hänsel and Gretel. They worked hard to feed them but never earned enough. One day seeing that they were no longer able to feed them and that the children were very hungry, the couple sat at the table and bitterly had to make a decision.
