Explanation

Whole food. A whole apple is as it occurs in nature. It has not been altered in any way.

Lightly processed. That is if it is homemade, or a brand that only includes apples and the texture of the apple remains. If the apple is pureed, it's likely some of the phytonutrients and heat-sensitive vitamins, like vitamin C have been destroyed. The fiber might be pulverized, and not function to its fullest potential. Then it would be processed.

Whole food. Some might say this is lightly processed because it has been sliced and that exposes it to oxygen, and use antioxidants like vitamin C.

Processed. We're assuming it's homemade. The apples have gone through a process, being cooked and mixed with other ingredients and have sugar and salt added.

Processed. Like the bread, it has gone through processed being mixed and baked. Spices, salt and sugar are added. If this was store-bought it would be ultra-processed.

Processed. This is assuming that there is not sugar and other food additives, like emulsifiers added then it would be ultra-processed. It is not lightly processed because it's gone through industrial processes to extract the juice from the apple. Homemade apple juice could be considered lightly processed. This one is a bit nuanced.

Ultra-processed. We don't know much about these bars, but unless they are homemade, they are ultra-processed. There is likely very little apple in the bar, it will have multiple food additives that are designed to preserve shelf life in addition to a lot of sugar. It will have gone through industrial processes to be able to sit on the shelf and be hyper palatable.

Ultra-processed. We don't know what these are, which is one clue that they have likely gone through industrial processes to make the apples shelf stable and highly palatable. There are likely multiple food additives, preservatives, and sweeteners. Now, if these were just baked apples with some sweetener, then we could consider them just processed.

Ultra-processed. Again, we don't know exactly what is in this product, but we have to imagine the starting point, an apple. How would you get an apple to be gelled together, super thin, and rolled up? It would take a number of industrial processes, preservatives to make it shelf stable, and likely sweeteners or additives. This looks nothing like an apple, and that's a clue. However, if someone took apple, baked it at home, added some spices and lemon, put it in a blender, then after cooling, was able to roll it. That would be processed.

Ultra-Processed. This is a made up cereal (although it might exist). There is very little apple in this product and it may just have apple flavoring, chemicals designed to taste and smell like apple. We know that to create a cereal, the flour needs go through many industrial processes. There will be many preservatives to make it shelf stable, and then likely food additives to hide the off-flavor of the preservatives. This is one of the most commonly consumed ultra-processed foods made up to be health.

Ultra-processed. Anything that has a puffed shape has gone through many industrial processes. There will be no actual apple and likely only apple flavoring. It's unclear how many food additives will be in this food, but there will be many and it is about as far from a whole apple as we can get ...

Ultra-processed. This one is easy because it's a sweet snack or dessert type food. We know it's loaded with sugar, that there is no apple in it, that it resembles nothing in nature and it is only a mix of synthetic food additives, sugar, and more sugar. What if there were natural flavors? Still ultra-processed. This is the ultimate example of an ultra-processed food.
