Stick on the ground

Stick on the ground

Maintain a ‘sweeping’ motion when shooting or passing with the stick close to the ground.

Hand placement

Hand placement

  • Keep the dominant hand half way down the shaft of the stick to help keep control of the blade. 
  • Avoid ‘golf hands’ where hands close together towards the top of the stick (the knob).  
  • Cover the knob of the stick with the non-dominant.

Goalie Crease

Goalie Crease

Create a goalie crease. When in game play, only the goalie may stand in the ‘goalie crease’. 

No other player will be allowed in that crease, not even their own teammates.

  • It is important to stay open for a pass, always look for the open player. 
  • Once the students understand their ‘side’ then they should remember to stay on their side which will help eliminate crashing into the ball.

Goalie

  • The goalie’s only role is to prevent the opposing team from scoring 
  • The goalie may pass the ball to their own team or cover the ball to stop play.

  • The defense’s primary role is to prevent the opposing team from scoring. 
  • A player’s best defense is to position yourself between the forward and the goalie.

Right Wing

  • The right winger is considered to be an offensive player sticking to the right side of the center. 
  • The right winger is a forward player whose main responsibility is to score or help support the other players to score

Left Wing

  • The left winger is considered to be an offensive player sticking to the left side of the center. 
  • The left winger is a forward player whose main responsibility is to score or help support the other players to score.

  • The center is between the left and right wingers on the offensive line. 
  • The center will take the face-off, play the middle of the court or ice and try to support the other forwards on the court.
