Avoid ‘golf hands’ where hands close together towards the top of the stick (the knob). Cover the knob of the stick with the non-dominant. 4 Goalie Crease Goalie CreaseCreate a goalie crease. When in game play, only the goalie may stand in the ‘goalie crease’. No other player will be allowed in that crease, not even their own teammates. 5 Spacing SpacingIt is important to stay open for a pass, always look for the open player. Once the students understand their ‘side’ then they should remember to stay on their side which will help eliminate crashing into the ball. 6 Player Positions Street Hockey Players:GoalieDefenseWingCenter 7 Goalie GoalieThe goalie’s only role is to prevent the opposing team from scoring The goalie may pass the ball to their own team or cover the ball to stop play. 8 Defense DefenseThe defense’s primary role is to prevent the opposing team from scoring. A player’s best defense is to position yourself between the forward and the goalie. 9 Wingers WingersRight WingThe right winger is considered to be an offensive player sticking to the right side of the center. The right winger is a forward player whose main responsibility is to score or help support the other players to score. Left WingThe left winger is considered to be an offensive player sticking to the left side of the center. The left winger is a forward player whose main responsibility is to score or help support the other players to score. 10 Center CenterThe center is between the left and right wingers on the offensive line. The center will take the face-off, play the middle of the court or ice and try to support the other forwards on the court.
