People used to make weapons and tools. Communities divided up tasks. Farmers grew crops, metal workers made tools and weapons. Bronze Age (c. 1700—800 BC) People learned how to melt and shape bronze. This made weapons stronger than ever before. Iron Age (c. 800—218 BC) Harder and better quality weapons and tools were made using iron. Gold and silver were used to make coins and jewellery. Larger settlements made up of houses and large hill forts were built.
