Transformations on plane

par Emijay Depillo
1

Translate point (1, 4) by vector (3, -2). What are the new coordinates?

2

Reflect point (5, -3) across the x-axis. New coordinates?

3

Rotate point (2, 1) by 90° counterclockwise about the origin. Result?

4

What is the effect of translating by (-4, +1) on (3, 2)?

5

Rotate point (x, y) by 180° about the origin. Mapping?

6

Reflect point (-2, 4) across the y-axis. New coordinates?

7

If a point is translated by (3, 0) and then rotated 90° CCW about the origin, what happens to (1,2)?

8

Reflect point (3, -2) across the line y = x. Result?

9

Rotate (4, -1) by 270° counterclockwise about the origin. Coordinates?

10

Which point remains fixed under any pure translation?

Feedback

Translation adds the vector to each coordinate; (1+3, 4-2) = (4, 2).

Reflection across the x-axis changes the sign of y only: (5, -3) -> (5, 3).

90° CCW maps (x, y) to (-y, x): (2,1) -> (-1,2).

Add the vector: (3-4, 2+1) = (-1, 3).

180° rotation negates both coordinates: (x,y) -> (-x,-y).

Reflection about y-axis changes sign of x: (-2, 4) -> (2, 4).

First translate: (1+3, 2) = (4,2); then rotate 90° CCW: (-2, 4) -> misdirection; correct sequence yields (-2,3) for standard order example.

Reflection across y=x swaps coordinates: (3, -2) -> (-2, 3).

270° CCW equals 90° clockwise; (x,y) -> (y, -x): (4,-1) -> (-1,-4).

Translations move every point by the same vector; only the identity transformation fixes all points, which translations are not.
