Ahmed joined an English class at his community centre . On the first day , his teacher asked him about his language learning . Ahmed said that listening and speaking were difficult for him . He could read some English , but he did not understand many . The teacher helped Ahmed make a learning plan . Together they decided that Ahmed would practise every day for thirty minutes . Ahmed listened to English podcasts , spoke with , and attended class twice a week . He also asked his friend Sam to help him practise . Ahmed discovered that he learned best when he listened first and then repeated new words . He kept a and wrote useful words and phrases . Each week he reviewed his progress with his . After three months , Ahmed felt more confident . He could make appointments , ask in shops , and talk to other parents at school .
