Flowers are the reproductive structures of flowering plants that attract pollinators and produce seeds. 3 Petals Petals form the colorful corolla that attracts insects and guides them to the reproductive organs for successful pollination. 4 Sepals Sepals protect the developing bud and make up the calyx, usually green and leaf-like. 5 Stamen Stamen is the male part, consisting of an anther and a filament, producing pollen. 6 Anther The anther releases pollen grains, which contain the male genetic material necessary for fertilization and seed formation. 7 Filament The filament holds the anther in position, helping pollen reach visiting pollinators and transfer to the stigma. 8 Pistil The pistil is the female part, containing the stigma, style, and ovary. 9 Stigma & Style The stigma catches pollen; the style is the tube that pollen travels through to reach the ovary. 10 Ovary & Ovules Inside the ovary are ovules, which develop into seeds after fertilization, completing the plant’s reproductive cycle. 11 Fertilization Overview Pollination and fertilization blend genetic material from pollen and ovules, forming seeds and, later, fruit to aid reproduction.
