An elderly man with vision died after he took the wrong medicine , a court has heard . The man , Pelayo Del Carmen Cortes Godoy , was 82 years old . He was born in Chile and worked as a before moving to Australia with his wife Rosa in 1985 . A South Australian coroner , Emma Roper , is now looking into how he died . Mr Cortes could not see . He had very little sight in his right eye and had lost his left eye in an accident . Because of this , he depended on his wife to pick up his medicines from a in Salisbury , in Adelaide ? s north . He had seven different medicines . Both Mr and Mrs Cortes spoke only a little English , so their children often helped them understand medical . On May 15 , 2020 , Mrs Cortes went to the pharmacy to collect medicines for both of them . One medicine pack had Mr Cortes ? name on the front , but on the back it showed another man ? s , Andrew Cummings , with a different list of medicines . On May 18 , Mr Cortes took the medicine from this . The next day he felt sick and told his wife . A doctor later saw that the medicine packs had different names and different . Mr Cortes was taken to hospital , but his health became worse very quickly , and he died the next day . A medical said he died because he took too many wrong medicines , which caused serious problems in his lungs and heart . The court is now trying to understand the wrong medicine was given and if safety rules were followed . The pharmacy owner has said to the family for the mistake . The pharmacist also admitted he made an when checking the medicine packs . The investigation is still .
