It tells us what something looks like, feels like, or has, so the reader can imagine it clearly. 2 Purpose of the Text The purpose of a descriptive text is to describe a person, place, or thing in detail so that the reader can clearly imagine it. It helps the reader understand what something looks like, feels like, or is like. 3 Structure of the Text The structure of a descriptive text is usually: Identification This part introduces the subject that will be described (person, place, or thing). Example: Ciliwung River is one of the rivers in Indonesia. Description This part describes the details of the subject, such as its appearance, condition, or characteristics. Example: The river is dirty and has a lot of garbage. There are also some fish and plants. 4 Example of the Text The Ciliwung River Identification: Ciliwung River is one of the rivers in Indonesia. It flows through Jakarta and West Java. Description: The river is very important for people and animals. However, the condition of the Ciliwung River is not very clean. There is a lot of garbage floating on the water. The water looks dirty and smells bad. Some parts of the river still have fish and water plants, but many areas are polluted. People often throw waste into the river, which makes the condition worse. 5 Vocabulary of the River and the condition Vocabulary: River and the Condition 1.
