New machines can collect this moisture and turn it into clean water . These machines are sometimes called " air water generators . " The machines work by cooling the air . When air becomes , the moisture changes into water drops . This is similar to how water on a cold glass . The machine then collects these drops and cleans the water so people can drink it . In some villages in India , these machines are helping families . People do not need to walk long to get water anymore . They can get water near their homes . This saves time and energy , especially for women and children . There are also special that can absorb water from the air , even when the air is very dry . Scientists are still improving these materials to make them cheaper and stronger . However , there are some . These machines need electricity , and they can be .
