April Fool ? s Day is April 1st , and on this day people traditionally play practical jokes . Companies and TV and radio stations often play tricks too , and their customers and audience believe them ! Here are two examples of them . In 2017 , many American customers searching for cheap airline tickets when they saw an ad for " Catflights . " The website stated they were a filter to look for flights that offered the company of cats for people who were scared of flying . Customers had the option of crossing the Atlantic or Pacific carrying their own cats or sitting next to a pet owned by the airline company . Many people believed the ad and to book a flight , but weren ? t able to do it . Then they called the company to find out it was an April Fool joke ! In 1976 , Patrick Moore , a famous astronomer , played a trick on the radio . He said that Pluto moving behind Jupiter and this was Earth ? s gravity . He told people to jump in the air at exactly 9 : 47 am if they wanted to feel the effect . By 9 : 49 am , the radio station ? s phones . The trick was a wonderful success ! Hundreds of people believed it and jumped . One woman said , " At exactly 9 : 47 , while I sitting with some friends , something lifted us into the air ! We nearly reached the ceiling ! "
