Thats correct Licensed Family child care providers are required to have 15 hours of continuing education every year.
Certified Family child care providers are required to have 5 hours of continuing education each year... you did it.
Licensing requires Introduction to the child care profession, Fundamentals of Family Child Care, Fundamentals of Infant and Toddler care when caring for children under 2. Skills and Strategies is an optional course for Family providers, it does teach more on lesson planning.
Certified Family Child Care is required to take Introduction to the Child Care Profession and Fundamentals of Family Child Care. Optional is Fundamentals of Infant and Toddler Care and Skills and Strategies for the child care teacher.
You did it all four are required are satisfactorily complete department-approved training in shaken baby syndrome and abusive head trauma, and appropriate ways to manage crying, fussing, or distraught children. Also a department-approved course in infant and child cardiopulmonary
resuscitation, including training in the use of an automated external defibrillator.
Certified Family are required to have all four also: Department-approved training on shaken baby syndrome, abusive head trauma, and appropriate ways to manage crying,fussing, or distraught children is required Training in child abuse and neglect laws and identifying, documenting, and reporting child abuse and neglect. Obtain and recertify as necessary to maintain current certification in infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR). Training in the most current medically accepted methods for reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
No individual provider may take care of children for more than 16 hours in any 24-hour period
Both can provide care for overnight be sure to follow and check the rules for the details on that care to be followed. Additional rules for night care after 10 p.m. exsist as well.
Be sure to note that you will need another provider if you have already worked your 16 hours whether certified or licensed.
Certified can have up to 6 in care and Licensed up to 8 in care.
Both Certification and Licensing allow one teacher/provider to care for four children under the age of 2 at one time.
In each rule book there are mixed age ratio charts. Certified even with mixed ages can care for up to 6 at one time unless they are all children under 2 then only 4 in their care. Licensing allows care for mixed ages up to 8 children however if all children are under two then maximum is 6. See your certification or licensed rules for details.
Certified and Licensed may not have to meet commercial building codes but may have municipal zoning codes to follow.
Certified family child care operatorY means a certified child care operator who provides care in a private residential property that is not the home of the child in care. Licensed Family child care centers are located in a building that is a one or 2-family dwelling.
Certified and Licensed Family shall have at least 35 square feet of usable floor space per child. Usable floor space for children does not include passageways, bathrooms, lockers, storage areas, the furnace room, the part of the kitchen occupied by stationary equipment, and space occupied by furniture that is not intended for children’s use
Certified Indoors minimum is 6 children x 35 sq ft = 210 sq ft and Licensed 8 children x 35 sq ft = 280 sq ft indoors.
There shall be at least 75 square feet of outdoor play space for each child using the space at a given time. A center with a licensed capacity of 8 children is required to have a minimum of 600 square feet. Certified with a capacity of 6 children is required to have a minimum of 450 square feet.
Licensed is yes - A permanent enclosure not less than 4 feet high shall be provided to protect the safety of children in care. Fencing, plants, or landscaping may be used to create a permanent enclosure. The permanent enclosure may not have any open areas that are greater than 4 inches. Certified is no -An outdoor play area shall have a permanent enclosure not
less than 4 feet high to protect the safety of children in care. Fencing, plants, or landscaping may be used to create a permanent enclosure. If the outdoor play area does not have a permanent enclosure, a provider shall be outside with children providing sight and sound supervision when children are outside. Or unless the certifier would deem a hazard on the property requiring it. It is optional.
In both Certified - A one-unit or two-unit residential building shall have
a functional carbon monoxide detector installed in the basement and on each level of the building, excluding the garage and attic, in accordance with the requirements and Licensed -A family child care center in a one-family or two-family residence shall have a carbon monoxide detector installed in the basement and on each floor level, except the attic, garage, or storage area of each unit, in accordance with the requirements of s. 101.647, Stats.
Licensed - A center shall have an interconnected smoke detection system in operating condition if one or more children under age 2 will be cared for on a level that is more than 6 feet above or below ground level. Certified - The home shall have a functional smoke detector on each floor level in accordance with the requirements of s. 101.645, Stats.
