La educación no es la excepción en la utilización del material multimedia, que tuvo sus orígenes con videos, sonidos e imágenes no creados propiamente para la educación. Los docentes se apoyaban de material generado con fines distintos al educativo, pero que ellos encontraban interesantes para compartir con sus alumnos. Videos para reportajes sobre lugares, imágenes tomadas para evidenciar situaciones o lugares, textos o gráficas con información sobre investigaciones científicas. Con los avances tecnológicos los materiales multimedia evolucionaron y además comenzó a aplicarse la informática en la enseñanza, lo que prometía un gran avance y la mejora de la calidad educativa con la tecnología aplicándose en ella.
