Introduction

Let's look at everything related to photosynthesis, its explanation, and fundamental characteristics using a CLIL approach. We'll start with a question and key concepts.

2

Where does it occur?

Photosynthesis happens in leaves. Plant leaves carry out this process under daylight.

3

Step 1: sunlight

Sunlight is the energy that enters. The leaves capture it with chlorophyll, which gives them their green color.

4

Step 2: Water

Water comes from the roots and rises through the plant to fuel the chemical reactions.

5

Step 3: CO2

CO2 from the air enters through the leaves and is used in food production.

6

Chlorophyll and energy

Chlorophyll makes it green and captures light, facilitating the conversion of energy into sugars.

7

Glucose

La glucosa es el azúcar que la planta fabrica para crecer y almacenar energía.

8

Oxygen

As a byproduct, oxygen is released into the atmosphere through the leaves.

9

Class dynamics

We use cards with keywords: sunlight, glucose, oxygen, roots, leaves to activate prior knowledge.

Question: What do plants need to make food?

Answer with first… then… finally to describe the process.

For example: First, plants absorb water and carbon dioxide with the help of sunlight captured by chlorophyll; then, they transform these elements into energy through chemical reactions that release oxygen; finally, they produce glucose as their main food.
