Last year , they noticed their school threw everything into one big garbage . They decided to take action and talked to their principal about starting a program . The principal agreed to them . David and Maya placed four different colored recycling bins around the . The blue bin is for paper , the green bin is for glass , the yellow bin is for aluminum cans and bottles , and the brown bin is for compost like waste and fruit peels . They created posters and visited classrooms to students how to their garbage correctly . In three months , the school recycled over 225 of paper and 90 kilograms of glass . The program has inspired other students to get involved . A group of tenth graders now helps empty the recycling bins each week , and some students have even started recycling at with their families . " If we can do it , anyone , " Maya said proudly .
