An archeologist of some renown journeys to the ruins of a temple that has been long abandoned. After receiving guidance from a helpful native guide, he navigates into the temple, sets off multiple hidden traps without harm, and recovers a lost relic from the indigenous people. After his return, he displays his findings in the museum he works at for the public to see and study.

The researchers followed ethical guidelines, including making sure to do no harm, obtaining informed consent, and maintaining anonymity and privacy. An Austrian anthropologist volunteers to learn more about them and their culture. After extensive research to learn their language and customs that required informed consent and complete anonymity of the subjects, he publishes his findings in multiple human languages on earth.

The archeologist trespassed on a culture's lost sacred ground with dubious consent, potentially damaging archeological evidence and cultural significance, before taking an artifact without the people's permission. He broke the first ethical rule of do no harm.

Everything the researchers did was considered ethical even though it did not give them the result they were looing for.

There is not enough information to make an ethical claim. The professor is embarrassed after his editorial publishing staff have a word with him.

When a specific culture is not involved, the research may still be associated with legal and political matters.

Despite taking proper precautions and ethical channels to respect the alien culture, the anthropologist did not take into account the need to provide access to his research to the informants of study. The aliens have no way of reading human languages initially.
