Explanation

When water looks clear and has no colour, we say it is colourless. This means you can see through it easily.

Turmeric has a strong yellow colour. When it mixes with water, it spreads its colour and turns the water yellow. The water does not stay clear or disappear — only its colour changes.

Sugar dissolves in water and has no colour, so the water stays colourless. It does not make the water yellow or dirty, and it does not remain visible once it dissolves.

Sand does not dissolve in water and stays at the bottom. It also does not have colour that can spread, so it does not change the colour of water.

Food colouring has colour, so it mixes with the water and changes its colour. Salt is colourless, so it dissolves but the water stays the same colour.

Art paint mixes with the water and spreads its colour. Soil does not dissolve in water. It makes the water brown and then settles at the bottom. That is why paint and soil behave differently in water.
