Alliteration is a fun language trick where two or more words close together begin with the same sound or letter. It makes phrases catchy and musical. You might hear it in headlines, poetry, and silly sentences that are easy to remember. 2 How It Works Alliteration happens when the initial sounds of words match. It isn’t about spelling, but about sounds. For example, in “Bouncy blue balloons,” the b sound repeats, creating a rhythm that readers enjoy and remember. 3 Classic Example Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. The repeating p sound makes this line playful. Try saying it aloud slowly, then faster, and notice how your mouth feels as you repeat the sound. 4 Sally Sells Seashells Sally sells seashells by the seashore. The s sound is soft and silky. It’s a famous tongue twister that helps you hear how repetition creates rhythm and fun in language. 5 Try It Yourself Think of two or three words that start with the same sound and make a short alliteration sentence. For example, “Brave bunnies bake big muffins.” Keep the phrase simple, clear, and musical to delight listeners. 6 Common Beginning Sounds Many alliterations use common starting sounds like b, s, t, p. Practice with families of words: bouncy, bright, bubbly or silly, sunny, sparkling. From ancient rhymes to modern slogans, repeating sounds help listeners remember lines, names, and ideas with ease and joy. 10 Quick Challenge Identify the alliteration: “Crazy crabs cooked crunchy curry.” Which word pairs share the initial sound? Now make your own line using any letter you like and share it with a friend or class.
