9

Introduction to Present Simple

The Present Simple tense describes routines, general truths, and facts. It uses the base form of the verb for most subjects.

10

Positive Form

For positive sentences, use the base form: I/you/we/they work, he/she/it works (add -s or -es).

11

Negative Form

To form negatives, use do not or does not + base verb: I do not work, she does not work.

12

Questions

In questions, start with Do or Does followed by the subject and base verb: Do you work? Does she work?

13

Usage

The Present Simple describes daily routines, permanent states, and universal facts such as the sun rises in the east.

14

Adverbs of Frequency

Common adverbs of frequency include always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never. Position them before the main verb: I always exercise.

15

Third Person Sing.

For he she it, add -s or -es (e.g., plays, watches). If a verb ends in -y, replace it with -ies.

16

Be Verbs

The verb be is irregular in the present: I am, you are, he is. We are, they are. Use it carefully.

17

Time Expressions

Time expressions help us signal routine time: every day, usually in the mornings, often on weekends. They support the Present Simple meaning.

18

Practice

Practice by forming positive, negative, and question sentences. Example: He works here, She does not work, Do they work here?
