Explore empathy through choice, learn to respond with care.

1

What is Empathy?

Empathy means understanding another person’s feelings and perspective. It starts with listening and imagining what they are experiencing.

2

Why It Matters

Empathy builds trust, reduces conflict, and strengthens communities. By stepping into someone else’s shoes, we respond more kindly and fairly.

3

Scenario 1

You see a classmate isolated after a bad test. What should you do first? Ask how they’re doing and listen without judgment.

4

Choice A or B?

Option A: Ignore the person. Option B: Sit with them and offer support. Empathy asks for action, not avoidance.

5

Reflect & Correct

If you chose Option A, you missed a chance to validate feelings. Correct approach: acknowledge feelings, invite them to share, stay present.

6

Scenario 2

A friend is anxious about a presentation. How can you help? Validate feelings, offer help, and practice together if they want.

7

Active Listening

Active listening includes nodding, summarizing feelings, and asking clarifying questions. This shows genuine care and reduces loneliness.

8

Scenario 3

Someone missteps and you feel angry. What now? Pause. Acknowledge your reaction, then respond with calm questions.

9

When Correcting Hurts

Wrong answers deserve correction, not shaming. Use kind language, explain impact, and offer an alternative action.

10

Take Action

Empathy is repeated practice. Choose small, kind actions daily: check-ins, listening, and inclusive words that invite others in.
