Activity Description: Reading Comprehension – My Cousin’s Big House
Objective:
Students will practice reading comprehension in English using a short text. They will learn and reinforce vocabulary related to the house (upstairs, downstairs, cellar) and numbers between 20 and 100.

Instructions for students:

Read the text “My Cousin’s Big House” carefully.

After reading, answer the questions in complete sentences.

Use information from the text to write your answers (don’t invent).

Skills practiced:

Reading comprehension.

Vocabulary: house parts (upstairs, downstairs, cellar).

Numbers: 20, 50, 90.

Writing short answers in English.

Expected answers:
Students should be able to locate and copy or reformulate the answers from the text (e.g., “The house has three floors”).

Extension idea (optional):

She lives in a very big house with her family. The house has three floors and many rooms. When you go upstairs, you can find Emily’s bedroom. Her room has a pink bed, a desk, and a computer. Next to her room is a small bathroom. On the same floor, there is also her parents’ room, which has two big windows. Emily told me that upstairs there are five rooms in total. When you go downstairs, you can see the kitchen, the living room, and the dining room. The kitchen is very modern. It has twenty chairs because Emily’s family is very big! In the living room, there is a big television and three sofas. Every evening, the family sits together to watch movies. The most interesting place is the cellar. It is under the house, and it is a little dark. Inside the cellar, Emily’s father keeps fifty old books, a guitar, and some tools. Emily says the house is ninety years old! I like visiting my cousin’s house because there are so many places to explore. My favorite place is upstairs, but Emily prefers playing in the cellar with her old toys. 2 Questions How many floors does Emily’s house have? How many rooms are there upstairs?
