He quickly went to help , remembering his first aid training . With no one else nearby , Jake knew he had to act fast . He checked for breathing and felt a weak but the man remained unresponsive . Taking a deep breath to calm himself , Jake started to keep the man's heart pumping , pressing firmly on his chest as practiced . While performing it , Jake looked around for . Soon , another passerby offered help . Jake asked them to call an while continuing CPR . After what felt like a long time , he heard sirens and felt relieved that paramedics were coming . When they arrived , the thanked Jake for his quick actions and assured him the man was now . They had the necessary equipment and would take the man to the hospital . As the ambulance drove away , Jake felt proud yet overwhelmed . He realized how important it is to be prepared for and to have the knowledge and tools to help others . From that day on , he always carried a small with him , just in case .
