Observa la cantidad de cognados que aparecen en este texto:


Many substances throughout nature contain silicon or carbon within their molecular structures. Silicon is the staple of the geologist-it combines with oxygen in a variety of ways to produce silica and a family of compounds known as the silicates. These compounds form the Chemicals foundation of most types of sand, rocks, and soil, the essential materials to the construction industry.


In the living world, carbon provides the basis for millions of organic compounds in combination with hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulphur. Carbon compounds provide us with energy sources in the form of hydrocarbons and their derivatives that allow us to heat and light our homes, and drive our automobiles to work. Small substitutions in these carbon molecules can produce chlorofluorocarbons, compounds used in plastics and refrigerants. An understanding of these molecules and their effect upon our global environment is vital in the continuing search to find ways to maintain our lifestyles while preserving the planet.

Subraya el significado de las palabras en negritas según el contexto (aparecen en el texto):


Como habrás observado las palabras en negritas no son cognadas y por lo tanto su significado no corresponde al que les damos en español. Conocer el significado de las palabras anteriores no fue difícil porque se trata de un texto no especializado. Sin embargo, cuando te enfrentes a un falso cognado y esa palabra sea necesaria para entender una idea, consulta un diccionario.

LECTURA SELECTIVA (Scanning).


Consiste en la rápida inspección de un texto para identificar palabras cognadas, cifras, nombres propios, es decir, palabras o números fácilmente reconocidos. No requiere de una lectura línea por línea o en un orden determinado.


Con base en las palabras que se repiten, en palabras cognadas y nombres propios, lee los siguientes textos en inglés. Posteriormente, relaciona el número del paréntesis con la letra que corresponda a la reseña que se enuncia en la columna de la derecha (las imágenes del ejercicio 3).
