I fool the eyes of those who seek, Predators miss me when I sneak. What am I? 3 I show who eats and who gets eaten, From plant to predator, none unbeaten. Each level up, energy fades, Only a fraction makes the grades. What structure am I? 4 From sunlight, air, and water true, I make the food that’s fresh and new. I fix the carbon, store it well, Without me, Earth’s fate might swell. What process am I? 5 I measure the life, the kinds, the range, From deep-sea vents to mountain strange. When species fall, I too decline, Preserve me, and the Earth will shine. What am I? 6 I’m the path that energy takes, Through all living things — no mistakes. Producers start, then eaters join, But I’m not always a straight line or coin. What am I? 7 I hunt and eat, I live to prey, On smaller ones, I find my way. But when I’m gone, things might go wild, Who am I, nature’s hunting child? 8 I make my own food with sunlight's aid, And in the food chain, I'm first displayed. Without me, there’s no start at all, I feed the herbivores, big and small. 9 I don’t walk, I don’t breathe, But life on Earth I help bequeath. Plants love me; they soak me in, Their food-making starts with my grin.
