Earth leakage current is caused by parasitic capacitances in the cable and motor windings.

For the motor cable shield to do its job, it must not be connected to the chassis or ground of the variable speed drive.

The RFI filter absorbs ground currents that have the same switching frequency as the IGBTs.

Earth leakage currents do not generate interference with sensors, PLCs or sensitive electronic equipment.

Part of the voltage wave sent from the drive to the motor is reflected or bounced back, because the impedance of the cable and the impedance of the motor is the same.

The longer the length of the cable between the drive and the motor, the greater the portion of the reflected wave and therefore the higher the peak voltage at the motor terminals.
