The working class was working in terrible conditions, so the first working class political movements emerged late, during 19th century. Working conditions in factories were generally dangerous and unhealthy. Machines were unprotected and accidents and injuries were a common occurrence. Young children often worked to increase the family income. There wasn’t social insurance or benefits to help the workers in cases of illness, accident and unemployment.
