His wound was cleaned and bandaged. Nowadays he would likely undergo major surgery. After few minutes, Phineas was able to talk and walk. He was sent back to town in a cart. Short term he lost his sight and had partial paralysis. Long term he died from seizures due to the accident. the stability of his life and job does not match with the lack of impulse control shown in many of his stories. All the evidence indicate that it would have happened that way. that certain parts of our brain control part of our personality and people can survive after a major accident.
