Covalent bonding forms when atoms electrons .

When two atoms get close enough , the nucleus attracts the other atom's .

Before bonding , the atom's electrons spend most of their time the nuclei of each atom .

Once bonded , the electrons spend most of their time two nuclei .

Atoms must be able to hold onto their , while another atom's electrons .

Covalent bonds form between two .

When atoms move closer , the potential energy . At a certain point , the potential energy if you try and move the atoms closer because the in each nucleus are each other .

The ideal distance between the atoms is known as bond .

Lower in energy = most .

Naming simple covalent compounds - the ending of the name of the second element is changed to - .

Prefixes added to the beginning of some elements names tell us how atoms of that element are present in the molecule .

Name the following

- dinitrogen monoxide
- nitrogen dioxide
- dinitrogen trioxide
- nitrogen monoxid e
