When we classify the as metals and nonmetals we
see that metals occupy of the part ( about 80% ) of the
Periodic table . The elements in groups 1 - 13 ( except hydrogen
and boron ) are . Only eleven elements H , C , N , O , P , S ,
Se , F , Cl , Br and I are , and elements in group 18 are
noble gases . However , among these elements , B , Si , Ge , As ,
Sb , Te , Po and At are and Sn , Pb , Bi and Be have
metallic properties .  
At room temperature , all metals have a lustre and are
in the state ( except Hg which is in the liquid state ) .
Nonmetals , which are , can be found in the solid state
such as S ( yellow ) and I2 ( purple - black ) , in the state
such as Br2 ( reddish - brown ) and the state , like N2
( colourless ) , O2 ( colourless ) , F2 ( light yellow ) and Cl2
( yellowish - green ) .
Some elements have properties of metals and nonmetals
more at the same time .
