The Water Cycle

Water is a unique substance on Earth , existing naturally as a solid ( snow , ice ) , a liquid ( oceans , rivers ) , and a gas ( ) . The water cycle is a crucial natural process where water moves between the and the .

The powers the water cycle . When the sun heats the Earth's surface , water evaporates , turning into water vapor and rising into the air . As it rises , the vapor cools and condenses into tiny , forming clouds . When these droplets become heavy , occurs in the form of rain , snow , , or hail .

After precipitation , some water is absorbed into the soil as , while excess water , called , flows over land into streams , rivers , and oceans . The constant repetition of the water cycle helps maintain a steady supply of water on Earth .
