THREE BASIC BUT INFLUENT THINGS.

There were three things that made the 14th century a very memorable century. This three things were:

  • The Black Death.
  • Farmine.
  • Wars.

The Black Death

It affected one third of the population in Europe between the years 1348 and 1352.It came from Asia,and the merchants or traders that had it spread it along the routes,so it affected most of the cities.It was probably an epidemic of bubonic plague.In the image you can see the progress of the Black Death around some parts of Europe.

Famine

There was a change of climate that caused famine in loads of places.This change brought cooler winters and reduced harvests.Malnutrition (that is having a bad nutrition) debilitated the population,and this made that they had weaker defences against illnesses than we have today.They could even die from a high fever.

Wars

The wars were continuous during this times.The most deastating war was the one between England and France between 1337 to 1475,known as the "hundred years' war".In the video you can see a summary of what happened.

All consequences of the crisis of the 14th century

The crisis of the 14th century affected in different ways:

  • The POPULATION decreased from 80 to 45 million people between the years 1300 and 1400.
  • The ECONOMY suffered less demand for manufactured products.
  • It produced various social conflicts in the countryside and in the cities.
