This is the process of burning. When this occurs, Carbon Dioxide gas is released into the atmosphere.

Carbon compounds are passed to herbivores when they feed on photosynthetic plants. These compounds are then passed up the food chain when the herbivores are eaten.

After herbivores intake carbon, cells work and give off carbon dioxide as a waste product. Carbon dioxide is released back into the atmosphere through this process.

When plants take in carbon dioxide from our atmosphere, water using the chlorophyll in their leaves, and energy from the sun. Plants are able to make their own food through this process.

Carbon dioxide is given off when organisms die. When organisms die, decomposers break down the dead matter and carbon compounds which are then released into the soil.
