Taiwanese Tech Company Helps Develop Danish Vertical Farm

The Taiwanese tech company YesHealth Group has partnered with a Danish company to build an immense indoor vertical farm near Copenhagen , Denmark . The precisely environment of the vertical farm will eventually yield about 1 , 000 tons of food each year . A farm requires a great deal more land to produce an equivalent amount of food . This new farm also helps solve several problems that have negative effects on the environment . One has to do with consumer behavior and the demand for food . Shoppers often food with little regard for what's grown locally or what's in season . To meet this , fruits and vegetables are transported around the globe , creating a large carbon footprint .

Local vertical farms that can simulate other climates could lessen this effect . In addition to reducing the environmental costs of transportation and land use , YesHealth Group's farming technology permits a much more efficient use of water . The LED lights used in the Copenhagen vertical farm will even be run on wind power . It's hoped that this farm's success will lead to further of the vertical farm model .
