Pre Columbian tribes
While all Aboriginal cultures of Colombia were many , these were grouped according to the indigenous languages spoken ; these are called an in our country we can refer to three : the , the and the .

The Chibchas
They are considered today as the family of furthest splendour and cultural development . They occupied of the country and part of the Caribbean region , particularly the and divided into several groups mainly the and .

The Muiscas
They were located in the . They were large cultivators and very good traders .
The political and administrative organisation on which they counted was of several chiefdoms , being the two most outstanding : Bacata , in the present territory of and , today Tunja ; and therefore , there were two main chiefs ( caciques ) , the Zipa for Bacata and the Zake for Hunza .


Among their ceremonies are now the ritual of , when the Zipa and Zaque covered their entire body with gold dust and then came to bathe in the Lagoon of Guatavita , located in the territory of what is now Cundinamarca .
