The moon looks different as it goes around the Earth. These changes are called the phases of the Moon. These four phases are: a new moon, the first quarter, a full moon and the last quarter. 4 New Moon When the Moon is in the new moon phase you cannot see it in the sky. 5 First Quarter Moon In the first quarter the new moon begins to grow and it looks like a “D”. 6 Full Moon The Moon continues to grow until it is a full moon. In this phase, we can see a complete round shape. 7 Last Quarter Phase After this, it decreases in size. It is now in the last quarter phase.
