Ten fun facts about Canada

What do you imagine when you think about Canada ? Maple syrup ? The Rocky Mountains ? Pristine lakes ? Well , Canada is one great country indeed . And I am not just saying it , it is the second largest country in the world with a land area of 9 , 985 million km² and the longest coastline stretching over 243 , 797 km . There are 3 , 000 lakes in Canada , two of the biggest lakes in the world : Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake . And the longest street in the world can be found in Ontario ? Yonge Street which runs for almost 1 , 900 km ! These facts are just , Canada is a fun country for so many reasons , but these are just a few facts that will make you want to book a flight to this amazing country right now !

. Winter activities : Winters in Canada can get very chilly , I am talking about really low temperatures , perhaps - 40 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country . Why is that fun ? Because it makes winter the best season to visit Banff and Lake Louise outside of Calgary , Alberta ; and Mont - Tremblant , 90 mins north of Montreal in Quebec . You will be able to do activities like : dog sledding , snowshoeing , ice fishing , ice skating , ice sculpting ? and the sights will just . I am telling you , Canadians know how to have fun even in the coldest of weather . Actually , according to studies , Canadians are the second happiest country on Earth ! Go figure !

. Awesome festivals all year round : Whether you like summer or winter , music or art , Canada has something for everyone . If you want to , here are some options for you : The Calgary Stampede , Vancouver Celebration of Light , Edmonton Folk Festival , Toronto International Film Festival , or Montreal Jazz Fest .

. Polar bears : You can find a place like no other in Churchill , Manitoba ? the greatest place to see polar bears in October and November ! Canada can claim about 17 , 000 of the globe's estimated 25 , 000 polar bears , and some 500 of them the town . OK , that is not so fun ! But you will be able to get a tour and enjoy seeing them in the wild .

. Santa Claus is an actual Canadian citizen . You read that right , I am making no mistake here . Canada's Minister of Citizenship , Immigration , and Multiculturalism has actually awarded Santa Claus a Canadian citizenship status . You can write to him to his postal address : North Pole Canada H0H 0H0 . True story !

. Loonies and toonies : No other country has named their currency with a funnier name than these ! One dollar coins are called 'loonies' because the design depicts the bird called Loon , and two dollar coins are called 'toonies' in honor of the one dollar coin obviously .

. Montreal is the second largest French speaking city in the world . While you may think this is not fun , it can be if you try to learn new words and phrases and then practice speaking to the locals . I guarantee you will laugh as you try not to yourself . Been there , done that !

. Canadians invented basketball , the garbage bag , the paint roller , peanut butter , the wonderbra , and IMAX . Aren't those fun ?

. Justin Bieber is not the most famous Canadian , Justin Trudeau is . He simply could with flirting with the Queen of England , and he can balance babies with one hand like . He is fun , handsome , and humble . But I have to say Justin Bieber was once the most followed celebrity on Twitter .

. Winnie The Pooh : I know you believed that Pooh was in fact Christopher Robin's Edward Bear , who had been renamed by the boy . But he was actually renamed after a black bear found at London Zoo called Winnie who got its name from the fact that its owner had come from Winnipeg , Canada . So we can imply that Winnie The Pooh is in fact , at least , part Canadian , right ?

. The literacy rate is 99% , so almost all Canadians can read and write . You cannot deny reading and writing is so much fun !
