Recommended proposal

Following the Investigation conclusions , it is recommended that a small - scale solar trough be set up in Greenery Park . the three options , this one is the most energy - efficient and the most cost - effective in the long term .


1 . Implementation

To implement the recommended proposal , HK$600 , 000 will be budgeted to the small - scale solar trough , which should be set up in the park by June 201 - .

To enable Greenery Park to the benefits of the solar trough system , it is proposed that an investigation team be set up to study overseas applications of solar troughs and to learn their experiences . By doing so , the installation and operation of the system can be implemented properly .

Regarding how to find a suitable installation location for the solar trough , it is suggested that the Facilities Management Office be contacted to other facilities that can be relocated to make room for the solar trough .

To an uninterrupted power supply for all park facilities powered by the solar trough in case of prolonged bad weather conditions , a small budget of HK$120 , 000 would be to install a backup power supply system as a contingency measure . The total cost of the solar trough and emergency power supply system is about HK$720 , 000 .


2 . Elaboration on benefits

Setting up a solar trough would benefit the community and the park in various ways . The details are as follows :

Raising public of environmental protection
By setting up the solar trough , Greenery Park will take a leading role in environmental protection and demonstrate that every member of the community , including theme parks , business enterprises as well as citizens can to creating an environmentally friendly society . As a result , this would help raise awareness and a sense of responsibility from other businesses and the public to protect the environment .

Requiring less manpower
Unlike devices utilizing other sources of energy , facilities powered by solar troughs are relatively easy to manage . The solar trough is computer - programmed so that it will automatically capture sunlight and convert it into electrical energy . This means the project will be beneficial to the park as it does not require much manpower to manage the system . Therefore , more staff can be allocated to other tasks in the park .

Promoting public image
Since solar power technology is not common in Hong Kong , the of new environmental protection technologies such as a solar trough will capture both public and media attention . Greenery Park would be regarded as a pioneer of environmental protection . This could definitely help to promote a good image for Greenery Park and enhance its competitiveness vis - à - vis other theme parks .
