I have to communicate with people from different backgrounds and languages . One common challenge is a language barrier . I can speak only English , while arrivals speak different languages . It can lead misunderstandings , or errors in customs procedures . Sometimes I rely on the body language of the foreigners , it could be confusing as well . To illustrate this , Asian cultures avoid eye contact , while in Russia it is okay . There are 3 tips I use in my work . , I try to be open - minded and to not pay attention to the differences because everyone is different . , I try to use simple language so that everyone understands me . , I try to read more about other cultures . , I would like to mention that intercultural communication is an important part of this profession and anyway you should be able to use it .
