Hard life of HR people

Is HR really for people who want to be friendly and helpful ? Read on to learn about some less commonly known aspects of working in HR .

Working in Human Resources , or HR , has become incredibly popular in recent years . Most companies have their own HR department . What do HR people do ? They , organize training , and manage employee relations among other things . When asked : " Why do you want to work in HR ? " , very often people reply that they just love working with people and helping them to develop their careers . This is the image of HR that is pictured in multiple job offers , and it is true , an HR career can bring great satisfaction . HR team members feel they can what is going on in the company , and the lives of the employees .

There are happy moments , like announcing a promotion for a deserving employee , approving quality training , awarding bonuses , or increasing someone's salary . Some also enjoy conducting interviews . It can be really enjoyable to tell somebody that they got the job they wanted so much . Unfortunately , only one person gets the position they are applying for , and it is also their job to call the rest of the applicants and tell them they didn't .

Being a may be helpful in HR , but some HR specialists make a good point when they say : " We aren't in the nice business , we're in the fair business . " What does this mean ? Part of their job is to do things that may be seen as fair , but they are definitely not nice . Being friendly is not enough . You have to be ready to give messages that will make people dislike you .

The hardest part about working in HR is having to . Whenever a company goes through an organizational restructuring , or a merger , difficult changes come along . There are happy winners who keep their positions , but there are also unlucky ones who face or lose their jobs . Also , in times of crisis , it can be extremely difficult to very productive employees or cut benefits to reduce costs . Even though these decisions may seem the only way for a company to survive on the market , HR team members are the ones who have to deliver them to real people . Numbers may tell you what to do , but they will never tell you how to do it . They will not tell you how to tell a father of three that he doesn't have a job anymore . Another challenge is that at times , HR people have to support and present management decisions that they personally don't agree with . And they usually have to take all the hate because they are a link between employees and management .

Without a doubt working in HR requires something more than just being friendly , helpful , and kind . According to one HR specialist , operations or general management is a better choice for those who are into others . Keep this in mind , if HR is your dream job . If you are an HR professional , keep perspective , do your job with empathy , but don't be afraid to give the bad news . If you're neither of these , please go to your HR colleague one day and thank them for their hard work . You can make their day a bit nicer .
