I represent “the people” in prosecution of people accused of committing offenses.

I am not required to take the stand and testify.

If I am subpoenaed, I must appear and testify unless released by the judge.

I enforce courtroom rules and maintain proper decorum (order).

I preside over the actual plea of guilty to ensure that the defendant understands his rights and exactly what he is doing.
