The king lived in a castle with the knights who helped and protected him. Christianism became the main religion. Every village had a church. Some cities had bigger churches called cathedrals. Peasants worked the land and were the king’s or the queen’s serfs. Agriculture was very important. Just a few people knew how to read and write. People began to speak a version of Latin which was the origin of many moder languages like Spanish. Muslims built great temples called mosques. Some of the mosques are still around today. Muslims governors lived in alcazars. The cities had many cultural and technological advances. They spoke Arabic. Trade was very important. Muslim cities always had a big market square.
